CDK Countersues Tekion in Escalating Battle Over Dealer Data

Just Auto reports CDK Global has filed a lawsuit against its rival, Tekion, alleging the latter used “unlawful methods” to access CDK-partnered dealership data. The filing follows a December lawsuit filed by Tekion that claimed CDK uses “anti-competitive practices” to discourage dealers from switching providers.
“This court must intervene to restore a fair and legal playing field among CDK and its competitor Tekion,” the new filing reads, in part.
The lawsuit, filed by CDK Global in federal court in San Francisco, outlines business practices its attorneys say run afoul of state laws intended to encourage fair competition. CDK is based in Austin, Texas, and Tekion is headquartered in Pleasanton, Calif., near San Francisco.
In a statement, Tekion executives said the charges are “without merit” and that “dealerships have a right to access their own data, and Tekion will stand behind this right.”
