CPO Down 13.1% as Used Sales Slip in June

vAuto (div. Cox Automotive) reports U.S. dealers sold 1.46 million pre-owned vehicles in June, down 1.5% from May in accordance with a customary seasonal decline. But sales of certified pre-owned fell sharply, down 13.1% from the prior month and 3.7% year-over-year.
Analysts attribute the anomaly in part to a scheduling disadvantage — June 2024 and May 2025 both had more selling days — and note year-to-date CPO sales are still outpacing last year’s by 2%.
“The slight decrease in used-vehicle sales was anticipated following the spring surge, as this seasonal slowdown is typical for this time of year,” writes Scott Vanner, Cox’s manager of Economic and Industry Insights. “Demand remains robust as consumers seek affordable vehicle options and aim to get the most value for their money, with some potential new-car buyers turning to the used market instead.”
