Jeep Gladiator Hits Sales Wall, Prompting 1,100 Layoffs

The Jeep Gladiator, once hailed for its unique design with removable tops and doors, has hit a significant sales slump. Launched in 2019, the truck initially garnered attention and strong demand but has faced a sharp decline in sales over the past two years.

“From 2020 through 2022, the Gladiator averaged 81,703 sales in the U.S., topping out just shy of 90,000 in 2021,” notes Automotive News reporter Vince Bond Jr. “While it didn’t come close to the dominant Toyota Tacoma, the Gladiator carved out its own place and climbed as high as third place among midsize pickups while tussling for position with the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado.”

Sales would fall dramatically, forcing Stellantis to announce layoffs affecting approximately 1,100 workers, a clear sign of the Gladiator’s waning market appeal.
