Report: New Vehicle Gross Profit Fell 33% in 2024

The Presidio Group’s latest report finds the average U.S. franchised dealership’s gross profit per new unit declined by 33% to $2,247. Profit per used vehicle retailed fell to $1,399, a 16% decrease from 2023. Those numbers contributed to a 24% average overall loss of profitability.

Presidio’s investment banking and dealer M&A experts produce reports based on data from 3,900 franchised dealerships partnered with training and consulting provider NCM.

Other highlights of the report include increases in new vehicle sales (up 2.8% from 2023), F&I income per vehicle retailed (up 0.3% to $1,581) and total revenue per store (up 0.7% to $83.9 million).
