Subaru Passes BMW in Consumer Reports Brand Rankings

Consumer Reports analyzed 32 U.S.-sold marques for its annual car brand report card. Although the top five are unchanged from 2024, Subaru swapped places with BMW to claim the No. 1 ranking and Lexus moved from No. 5 to No. 3 as Porsche and Honda slid.
CR road-tests and crunches reliability and customer satisfaction numbers for at least two models from each factory. Analysts urged consumers to look beyond year-to-year “shuffling” of manufacturers, focusing on how the brands they’re considering have performed over the long haul.
“Because the rankings are based on averages, small product lines mean that each model has an outsized impact on its brand’s score,” the report states, in part. “Car buyers should look for consistent performance, as we’ve seen with the top five brands.”
