Volvo Sales Down 5% in January Despite Plug-In Boost

Volvo Cars reported global new vehicle sales of 50,820 in January, a 5% decrease from the same month a year ago. Sales were led by the XC60 plug-in hybrid with 18,972 units, followed by the XC40/EX40 (8,736) and the XC90 (7,473).

The factory noted sales of EVs and plug-ins grew 17% compared with January 2024 and accounted for 19% of sales.

Volvo was one of a few manufacturers to report a year-over-year decline in January sales reports. U.S. sales of new Ford and Toyota vehicles fell by 6.5% and 1.3%, respectively, while Hyundai (15%), Kia (12%) and Mazda (11%) reported double-digit growth.
