Brake Cylinder Defect Adds to Ford Recall Woes

Apr. 18, 2025 | |

Ford will recall a total of 148,266 vehicles due to unrelated brake cylinder and software concerns, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, adding to a growing list of issues that are sending Ford owners to dealership service departments.

The larger of the two recalls affects more than 123,000 2017–’18 Ford F-150s, Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators as well as any vehicle equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. A potentially leaky master brake cylinder can affect brake performance and extend stopping distances.

Ford also will recall more than 24,000 Explorers due to a software malfunction that could cause the engine to stall during operation.

The Dearborn, Mich.-based factory has been the source of a number of NHTSA bulletins in recent months, including the February recall of 240,000 SUVs and pickups due to the risk of seat belt bolt failure and a January battery replacement notice affecting nearly 273,000 Ford Bronco and Maverick owners.
