Freeze Frame: Camera Trouble Leads to Second Million-Unit Recall

Dec. 1, 2025 | |

More than 1 million U.S.-sold Toyota, Lexus and Subaru units are subject to a new recall due to an issue with their rearview camera images, which may freeze or fail to display when drivers shift into reverse, particularly immediately after starting their vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s list includes a wide range of Toyota and Lexus vehicles — including the top-selling RAV4 and Camry — as well as the Subaru Solterra, all built for the 2022–’26 model-years and equipped with Toyota’s Panoramic View Monitor system.

Remarkably, this is the second seven-figure recall attributed to rearview cameras this year, following the May recall of more than 1 million Ford and Lincoln models; in June, nearly 80,000 Nissan units and more than 200 Chrysler vehicles were recalled for similar issues.
