Hyundai, Kia Set Records as Luxury Marques Push Import Sales

U.S. Hyundai and Kia dealers sold more new vehicles last month than in any past January — despite winter storms that blanketed much of the nation — according to the latest new vehicle sales report from Automotive News, which finds Hyundai, Honda and Toyota’s premium divisions helped push them to appreciable gains.
Hyundai-Kia reported sales of 55,624 new Hyundais (up 2.1% from January 2025) and 57,007 new Kias (up 13.1%). Sales of Genesis-branded units improved by 6.6%, joining Acura (3.8%) and Lexus (14.8%) in helping parents Honda (1.9%) and Toyota (8.1%), respectively, achieve year-over-year increases.
Mazda (-14%), Subaru (-9.1%) and Ford (-5.2%) reported fewer sales than in January 2025.
“[Mazda’s] January volume fell 14% to 28,958, with light-truck sales off 13%. The company’s sales have dropped six straight months, though it was Mazda’s third-best January ever,” writes AN’s David Phillips, noting incentives were essentially flat industrywide last month.
