Nissan Removes Top Stair From Dealer Incentive Program

Nissan has once again revamped its stair-step incentive strategy, eliminating a $1,200 per vehicle bonus for U.S. dealers who reach 110% of their quarterly new vehicle sales goals, according to documents obtained by Automotive News.

The Japanese factory added the tier in June as part of its then-new Nissan One program, simplifying incentives with support from its dealer council. Dealers who reached the 100% or 90% mark earned $600 or $350 per vehicle, respectively.

Going forward, payouts will be issued on a monthly basis in two tiers: $1,000 per vehicle for dealers who hit their goal and $500 per vehicle for those who reach at least 80% of their target count.

“Nissan executives acknowledged that the top bonus tier drove unrealistic sales targets for stores and resulted in some selling below cost to chase bigger payouts,” writes AN’s Urvaksh Karkaria.
