Product Sales Move Online in 2024 F&I Report

Protective Asset Protection’s fifth annual F&I Report & Industry Update finds U.S. dealers who offered F&I products online in 2024 believe they were rewarded with stronger sales.

A survey of dealers found more than one-third (37%) reported about half their customers bought F&I products online. Another 10% each said “about 75%” or “almost all” of their customers did the same.

A majority (60%) of dealers said offering F&I products online improved sales. Respondents took a largely positive view of overall F&I performance in 2024, with 71% reporting sales improved by at least 5% and only 19% reporting F&I product sales decreased from 2023.

“The report highlights the critical role of F&I products in dealership success, especially as margins on vehicle sales continue to tighten,” writes Rick Kurtz, Protective’s senior vice president and chief distribution officer, in a release announcing the report. “We’re observing a growing interest in products that protect major mechanical components, electrical systems and advanced technology features. This trend aligns with the increasing complexity of modern vehicles and consumers’ desire for long-term protection of their investments.”
