REAL ID Deadline Highlights Dealer Challenges

The REAL ID Act sets a new standard for identity verification and represents a step forward in the fight against synthetic ID fraud. So why are so many dealers verifying IDs the old-fashioned way?

700Credit’s Ken Hill investigates the issue in his latest contribution to DealerELITE, urging dealers to take recent enforcement deadline as a sign that it may be time to update and upgrade their verification processes.

“Dealers are increasingly being held liable for these losses, with lenders often requiring repurchase of vehicles tied to fraudulent transactions,” Hill writes. “One misstep in the verification process can result in substantial financial and reputational damage.”
