Lotlinx: Used Markdowns Hit 47% as Dealers Roll Aging Stock Into Q4

New vehicle inventory grew 9% against flat third-quarter sales and half of used inventory is now aged, according to Lotlinx’s Q3 2026 Vincensus Report.
New vehicle day supply rises to 62 days, five above last year. Stellantis holds the four highest day supplies in the market (led by Dodge at 135), representing 13% of new inventory against 6% of sales.
The list price of new vehicles still in stock at quarter’s end increased by 10% year over year to $48,490. But the last list price of sold vehicles grew just 2% to $44,542 — a gap of nearly $4,000 — up from about $2,300 in Q2. The share of used vehicles sold with a markdown grew six points to 47%, and aged ending inventory is up four points to 50%.
“Dealers who treat inventory as an investment to protect, rather than a product to push, will be better positioned to preserve margin through year-end,” writes Len Short, chairman and CEO of Lotlinx, in a release.
Lotlinx’s previous Vincensus report found stronger new vehicle sales masked deep inventory risk in Q2.
